Morning Rituals for Tired Humans

exercise kettlebell mindfulness self improvement Jul 09, 2025

Ya'll, I am NOT (I repeat) NOT a morning person. But I have a business to run, kids to get out of the house in the morning, a partner I love and want to connect with before we start our busy days, dogs to feed ... and I want to feel GOOD!

At Forest Coaching, we work a lot at the intersection of science and spirit : body based // human focused Because that's what works for US as humans! So if you're not someone who is bouncing out of bed before your kids to get in a great workout, but still wants to start your day feeling GOOD... read on.

1. Be curious.

Do you have any habitual thought patterns that immediately start playing when you wake up, regardless of how you slept? (Like: I'm so tired. I'm so stressed. Oh my $*(& THAT ALARM AGAIN?)

Notice that you're playing those thoughts on auto pilot AND what else is true right now.

2. Be grateful.

I wake up and - even when I feel like I've been dragged under a semi - say THANK YOU. Out loud. Even in a whisper. THANK YOU. Sometimes we don't even know what for, but the act of gratitude starts the engines.

3. Let something FEEL good.

The hot water from your shower. A big STREEEETCH of your arms. A deep breath. The taste of coffee. Let your brain look for something that is PLEASURABLE!

4. MOVE.

If you're the kind who IS up and working out - start your warm up with something organic and intuitive. Say hello to your pleasure centers! Light yourself up! If you're not an AM workout person:

  • Standing Cat-Cow
  • Standing Side Stretches + Breathing
  • DANCE!!! Wiggle. Shake. Get the jiggles on.

Here are a few other ways to help your brain start the engines and show up:

* your brain has a specific information flow, so this order can be helpful!

Breath : 4-6 Triangle Breaths, Diaphragmatic Breaths or Physiologic Sighs

Sensory : What do I FEEL with my skin? (try rubbing your arms and legs and belly)

Movement :  March. Walk. Bounce. Do a 30 sec yoga practice. Dance.

Connection : Eye contact. Safe touch. Kind words. Live alone? Send a text!

Affirmation : What's one positive or inspiring thing I could think right now that's TRUE?
